TYPEWRITERS
"Upgrade that pencil to a typewriter "
TYPEWRITERS: We repair, sell, and
buy typewriters and supplies of all kinds from the 19th century to the 21st century
(including manuals, electrics, electronics, vintage, and antique). Yes,
the Japanese and the Japanese are still making new typewriters. We have a
varying stock of used typewriters for sale that consists of antique/vintage manual
typewriters, to electric/electronic typewriters, to word processors with spell checkers, memory with floppy disk, and cartridge I/O. We have portable,
battery-operated (no cord) to thermal-operated (no ribbon) typewriters.
We
are often asked, "Who still uses typewriters?" Well, the answer is
wide-ranging: auto dealers. churches, funeral homes, CPA's, lawyers, medical
labs, oil companies, banks, etc; i.e., usually people who deal with manual,
multi-sheet forms. And then there
is the nostalgia craze for those who just like the good, old days, or want
to go off the grid/Internet, and for whom only a manual typewriter will do.
We stock
an array of typewriter ribbons: cloth for older manuals and the like, and
erasable ribbons and correcting ribbons, for the newer typewriters. If you have the original, ribbon
wheels with dry (unusable) ribbon fabric, we can also just wind some new
ribbon material on them, if there are no plastic spools available.
ELECTRIC TYPEWRITERS
IBM SELECTRICS and
IBM Lexmark WHEELWRITERS and SWINTEC
We still repair electric typewriters,
including the IBM SELECTRICS and IBM Lexmark WHEELWRITERS, as well as,
SWINTEC, SMITH-CORONA, UNDERWOOD, ROYAL, NAKAGIMA, BROTHER, etc.
However, parts for the IBM SELECTRIC
have become scarce and therefore,
sometimes they are impossible to repair. But we still have lots of type
balls, from new to good used, with various fonts and pitches (some are still
sealed in their original red, plastic carrying cases!)
We usually have a selection of
refurbished electric typewriters, from the earliest , to the latest models.
We usually stock electric typewriter
supplies like correctable ribbons and correcting tapes.
ELECTRONIC TYPEWRITERS
We still repair electronic typewriters,
including the IBM / LEXMARK, SWINTEC, SMITH-CORONA, BROTHER, CASIO, CANON, etc. These typewriters
are more like word processors than a 1960's or 1970's, electric
typewriter, and more
like a 1980's PC or 1990's laptop with a built-in printer.
We usually have a selection of
refurbished electronic typewriters, from the earliest , to the latest
models.
We usually stock electronic
typewriter supplies like correctable ribbons and correcting tapes. We still
have in stock some new and used type wheels with various fonts and pitches.
MANUAL
TYPEWRITERS
We will look at the older (including
vintage and antique) manual
typewriters, and if all the parts are there,
usually get them into working order: L. C. SMITH, CORONA, SMITH-CORONA,
UNDERWOOD, ROYAL, REMINGTON, BLICKENSDERFER, etc.
We can usually tune up any manual or
electric typewriter, and if it hasn't been abused,
and all the parts are there, we are usually able to get it into a good working order.
We usually have a selection of
refurbished, manual and electric typewriters, from the earliest, to the latest models.
We usually stock manual typewriter
supplies like ribbons and if you have your spools, we can wind a new cloth
ribbon on those spools, or make a new, plastic spool, fit.

TYPEWRITER
MUSEUM
We have our own little "museum" that contains typewriters from the last 100+
years -- including the same model that Hemingway wrote his earliest works
with, that has been deemed the first "laptop". We have the early
typewriters, like the BLICKENSDERFER Typewriter, that because of its radical
design, was the fastest in its day: a design that is very similar to the IBM
SELECTRICS of the 60's! Then there are the "BATWINGS" whose design has never
been emulated. We have a lot of typewriters through mid-century, that
include manuals and electrics (like the first electric models of the IBM's).
This is all finished off with the IBM/LEXMARK WHEELWRITERS that could be
attached to the early IBM computers to provide I/O. The later models of the
WHEELWRITERS were the precursors of the modern word processors. They offered
features, such as: Spell Checking, magnetic storage, auto formatting, etc.
